The Ghana and Mali empire
The Ghana empire was founded when the trade route crossed the savanna through the region farmed by the Soninke people. The Soninke people called their ruler Ghana. Muslim traders began to use the word to refer to the Soninke region by the 700s Ghana was now the name of the Kingdom. The Empire is governed by the king, he controls trade and the commanded army, he could demand taxes and gifts from the chiefs of surrounding lands.The Ghana empire was located in southern Mauritania and northern Senegal.
In 1235 Mali had emerged. Its founders were Mande, the speaking people. Mali s first ruler was Sundiata. Mali was Governed very different than Ghana's Government. the ruler was able to put administrators in charge of Mali's finances, defense, and foreign affairs. The Mali empire is located between the Sahara Desert to the north and the coastal rain forest in the south.
