During the Han Dynasty China had its first enemy the Xiongnu. The Emperor tried to buy off the Xiongnu with rice, alcohol and money. The Xiongnu accepted the gifts but continued the raids. when the emperor realize that the bribes were only making the Xiongnu stronger he sent over 100,000 soidiers to fight them. he also became allies with the Xiongnu enemies
